ENGLAND DEFEATS INDIA ' WITH MARGIN OF 158. DIFF1CULT BOWLING.

LONDON, Wednesday. The first test match hetween the Indian ericketers and England was concluded at Lord's to-day. England winning the match by 158 runs. When sttifnps were drawn yesterday each side had eompleted an innings, India liaving a deficit of 70 runs, while England, in their second venture, had lost four wickets for 141 runs. Continuing their innings to-day Jardine applied the closure. when 275 runs were up for the loss of eight wickets. ilndia were left with 346 to make to win, but had only compikd 187 when the last wicket fcll. Jardine's performance is regarded as consolidating his prospects for the captaincy of the English side for Australia. The Indians had little opportunity on a wearing wicket, against good bowling.
