j — FUNERAL OF NGAMAHIRAU ATAMA. j The interment of Ngamahh'au j Atama, ancient chief of the Ngatiwhare branch of the Arawas, took place at Owliatiura yesterday afternoon in the presence of relatives and close friends. The old chief, who passed away on Sunday, had reached the great age of 96 years. He was born at Ohinemutu and on reaching manhood saw s.ervice with the loyal forces in the Maori Wars under Captain Gilbert Mair. He was also wellknown in musical cireles in the early days, and ahout 20 years ago visited America with a concert party. Aua ! Hato, the popular Maori singer, is one of his grandchildren. M Atama was a cousin of the chief || Getere Tukuino, of Ohinemutu, anI|| is survived hy many descendants.
