PUT BUBBLES IN CHAMPAGNE. The 250th anniversary of the first sparkling champagne is to be marked on June 26 and 27 by a celebration at the old Abbey of Hautvillers, in Champagne. The "man who put the bubbles in the fizz" was Dom Perignon, a venerable abbot who discovered the m'Sthod by whieh to this day the fine white wines of Champagne are made to sparkle, and he will be fittingly feted during the anniversary as the "Fath'er of the Champagne Industry." A committe headed by the mayors of Rheims, Epernay, and the Hautvillers " will arrange details of the celebration;" which will end with a feast attended ~ by experts from the world over, who ' will extol the virtues of the bubbly golden wine.
