THE LONE VOYAGER
(Special to "Post.")
DISSATISFIED WITH N.Z.
GISBORNE, Monday. Mr. W. C. Valentine, who is reported to have sailed from Auckland on Sunday morning with the intention of making a lone voyage to England, was a resident in the Gisborne district for about five years. On arriving here from England, he was engaged in farming at Patutahi, about ten miles from Gisborne. About a year ago he purchased a property in town and resided there until a few weeks ago, when he sold. He was always dissatisfied with conditions in New Zealand, the burden of taxation heing one of his principal complaints. He told friends here that he had decided to return to the Old Country, and sail there himself. He> made inquiries locally regarding a boat, but was unable to get one to suit his requirements. He went to Auckland where he purchased the Waima. He. said his idea was to sail across the Pacific to San Francisco and then cruise down the coast of America, but he had not made up his mind whether he would go through the Panama Canal or round Cape Horn. It is understood that while he was in England, he had considerable ex~ perience of yachting and also studied navigation. Mr. Valentine was of an adventurous disposition and on one occasion when in Palestine, he made a motor cycle tour by himself through Palestine, the Balkan States and Central Europe.
