SATURDAY'S GAMES
NGONGOTAHA AND ROTOITI WIN IN SENIOR SERIES JUNIOR FIRST ROUND Wet weather caused a falling off in the att'endance at Arawa Parlc on Saturday. The heavy rain which fell earlier in the day and during the play made the ground heavy and treacherous with the result that play in the various games developed into a battle between the forwards. In the senior series, two surprises were registered. Hikuwai who are at the bottom of the senior ladder, played a great game to draw with the competition leaders, Whaka. Play was even in most stages, but Hilcuwai's bustling and aggressive tactics had their opponents distinctly worried. The flnal score was 6 all, each side registering two tries. The second surprise was provided by Ngongotaha, who defeated Waikite 14-11. Ngongotaha are also standing well down the senior ladder but fully deserved their margin on the day. The junior competition games marlced the conclusion • of a particularly heavy first round, but provided no surprises. Both Whaka and Kahukura put up big scores against Old Boys B and Ngongotaha, while High School had little difficulty in disposing of Waikite 11-3, although the latter team, who were playing short in the first spell, put up a good showing over the final stages. The Rotoiti-Old Boys A
match was a more even affair than the other junior games, the score of 6-3 being a fair indication of the strength of the respective- sides, Rotoiti's advantage in weight was offset by the superior combination and tactics of their opponents.
