AUCKLAND, Sunday. Arrangements were finalised duririg the week-end for holding a conference in Auckland on Tuesday, between the Waikato and Hikurangi miner's and the coal owners. ^ The following telegram has hfeeri reeeived hy Mr. Davidson, Secretary of the Northern Miners' Union frorii Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of ihe iNew Zealand Coal Owners' Association: "If your union could give definite assurances that the Hikurangi branch of the union will accept and ahide hy any agreement reached at the conference as to the engagement and dismissal of men, the owners will arrange a conference in Auckland on Tuesday, the resumption . of work to he postponed until after the conference. Mr. Bishop's message waS immediately ref erred to the Hikurangi Miners' Union, the secretary, Mr. Latham replying: "My unioh will stand by the majority rule, provided it is endorsed hy the Waikato miners." On Saturday night, Mr. Davidsoft reeeived the following reply: "I airi informed by Mr. McLagen, secretary of the Federation of Miners' Unions that a conference has been accepted as proposed in my telegram to youi I am therefore afranging that a confefencC take place on Tuesday iii Auckland." Union officials of the Glen Afton; Pukemiro, McDonald, Rotowaro, Re.nown and Hikurangi branches of the union will be represented at the cori- • f erence. .
