WAITEMATA POWER BOARD REFUSES TO INFLICT CUT RESULT BAD FOR TRADE

By Telegraph— Copyrlght).

AUCKLAND, Monday. By six votes to five the Wiitemata Power Board to-day refused to pass a motion that a return showing the wages and salaries be prepared. The mover said the Government had taken a lead in wage cuttir.g. and it had suggested that its lead be followed by local bodies and others. In opposing the motion, other members said the board could afford to pay the present wages and that the result of wage-cutting was very bad on trade. One said that universal reductions were no way to get over the depression. An amendment was moved that the board do not consider the question of wages and salaries till February, the usual time for reviewing them, and this was carried.
