FORTUNATE FOUR
LUCK STILL IN. In the earlier days of the Great War, fonr troopers in the No. 4 troop of the Waikato Mounted Rifles left together in the Main Body, N.Z.E.F. Passing through Hobart, the troops were indulged in a route march through the town, and, on their journey, the four, with other comrades, spent their spare pennies in the purchase of tickets in "Tatt's." On Christmas Eve, in Cairo, they each drew £72/16/8 as the proceeds of the tickets held in the name of the section of four. Recently the Four Old Troopers met once again and dug up the , odd pennies (now, alas! scarce enough), and made up a ticket in a well-known consultation (one' must not say sweepstake), held in a neighbouring Dominion (one must not say Tasmania). Recently one of the original four, who is residing in Thames, says the "Star" received word that the tickets held by the "Old Four" had won a second prize, and joy reigns once again. Last time, Trooper "X's" £72 odd lasted till Boxing Day in Cairo, but this time it will be more nicely expended.
