THE WEATHER
The Government mefieorologist iasued the following weather report and forecast Iast night: — General situation: An intense depression is centred to-day near the Chatham Islands, and the barometer is still low over New Zealand; another depression has been moving o'n the Tasman Sea to-day. Forecast: Winds, moderate to strong south -westerlies to westerly, of gale force in exposed positions. Weather: Mainly fair in eastern districts between East Cape and Oamaru; elsewhere changeabie with scattered showers, more especialiy in districts wfth a westerly aspect; cool temperatures. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, and rainfall readings recorded at the Gov« ernment Observation - Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday: — Barometer 29.263:ns. Thermometer (max.) 53.5dsg. Thermometer (min. on grass) 34.0deg Rainfail 0.28ins.
