DIGGERS FOREGATHER

ROTORUA R.S.A. MEMBERS ENJOYABLE SOCIAL EVENING. FIRST OF SERIES At the recent annual meeting of the Rotorua branch of the R.S.A. it was decided to hold a series of social evenings to foster unity among the ex-servicemen of the district. Following up this decision the first of these gatherings was held ixi the Druid's Hall last evening and proved an undoubted success. Fully '60 men attended, and to these Major R. I. Dansey extended a hearty welcome. Mr. H. Hamilton was then installed as chairman for the evening and a capital programme of music and reminiscent stories filled up an enjoyable evening. Major Dansey in a brief address to the men outlined the work which was undertaken by the annual conference of the R.S.A., and read to them a number of the remits which had been sent forward for diseussion. It was reported that Mr. W. Perry, of Wellington, would be unable to represent the branch at the conference and the gathering, therefore, unanimously decided to recommend the committee to ask Major Dansey to act as delegate. After this informal business had been transacted a plentiful supper was provided. The success of the evening was undoubted proof that the committee had adopted a wise and popular method of keeping the men together.
