— By Telegraph — Copyright).
AUCKLAND, Friday. An amendment, as the basis upon which preliminary action could be taken for the settlement of the coal miners' strike, is indicated in a statement by Colonel W. D. Holgafe, President of the New Zealand coal owners' association. This is, that the owners are prepared "to adopt the suggestion of the miners that the men on strike resume work on Monday under the old terms, providing it is clearly understood that the district conferences are held to eonsider negotiations on the district agreement, and the right to engage and diseharge men at discretion is conceded the owners. A national conference for the purpose of arriving at an all-Domin-ion agreement will not be considered.
