DANGER FROM FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE IN CALIFORNIA
— By Telegraph— Copynght)
WELLINGTON, Friday. Consequent upon a recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease amongst swine in California, the Government has decided to impose an embargo upon vegetables and ground products from here. Live stock, straw and other material likely to carry infection, are already prohibited. The Californian authorities have dealt effectively with the outbreak, but it is considered desirable, in order to prevent infection, to extend the prohibition to Australia. Free fruits and grapes are not involved in the decision.
