Shags and Trout. From reports presented to the Southland Acclimatisation Soeiety it would appear that shags are doing a great deal of damage among the trout in that part of the dominion. A ranger reported that he shot seven shags on the Mataura River and each one contained -two or more trout, some of the trout being easily 51b. in weight. No Rate This Year. The Te Puke Town Board has decided to strike no general rate this year. It has been found possible to do this by diverting from the electricity resefve fund the amount which would be collected if the general rate were struck. The rate would approximately amount to £800. Poverty Bay Show Grounds Approximately £3170 has been collected by the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association for improvemcnts to the Showgrounds during the past three years (says the "Times.") This amount includes £1056 as subsidy under Mr. H. G. Tuclier's generous offer to donate 10s.' for .every £ collected, up to the total of £5000. During the same period, .the association has expended £3632 on build ings and improvements at the new grounds. Good Deer Stalking Rotorua sportsmen will be interested to lcnow that some exceptionally fine heads have been obtained in the Tararua Ranges this season. From the Mangahao Valley one party brought in a magnifiecnt 19pointer, other heads taken being 16, 15, 13, and 12-pointers. In the upper reaches of the Waingawa River, 44 deer were seen in one day and two splendid heads were secured, although the deer were alert §nd hard to stalk. One head was a iine 20pointer and the other a 16-pointer. The latter had a spread of 46 inches, which is thought to be a record for any red deer taken in the Dominion. Increased Outpist. Returns from the Bay of Plenty Co-operative Dairy Association show an increase over last year of 18 per cent. Detailed results are: Butterfat received May, 1932, 222,977 lbs; amount to be paid out on 20th inst, £9.253. Butterfat received May, 1931, 128,244 lbs; amount paid out £5,308. Increase, £3,945. Total amount paid out from July 1, 1931 to 31st May, 1932 (11 months), £153,548. Total amount paid out July 1, 1930, to 31st May, 1931 (11 months), £140,873. Increase £12,675. Butter manufactured July 1, 1931 to May 31st, 1932 (11 months), 2016 tons. Butter manufactured July 1, 1930 to May 31st 1931 (11 months), 1708 tons. Increase 308 tons. Rugby Football Fixtur.es. Some good games are promised at Arawa Park this afternoon in both senior and junior Rugby competitions. As in each section well matched fifteens will meet, the result of the games will prove interesting. The senior matches are: Rotoiti v. Waikite, Whaka v. Kahukura and Hikuwai v. Ngongotaha. Junior fixtures are: High School v. Kahukura, Horohoro v. Waikite, Old Boys A v. Old Boys B, Whaka v. Ngongotaha. The last named will be played at Ngongotaha.
