THE WEATHER
The Government meteorologist issued the foliowing weather report and forecast last night: — General situation: An intense cyclone is centred to-day off the East coast of Otago, and an intehsive low pressure area is still situated over the southern Tasman Sea and eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds strong to gale force with a southeriy tendency in places, but becoming south-westerly generally after about 24 hours. Weather: Unsettled, squally and changeable with Intermittent rain in most districts, heavy in parts of western districts; snow on the high country in the South Island; temperatures becoming cold. Foliowing are the barometer, maxlmum ?.'nd minimum thermometer, and rainfalL-rea'dings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 24 hodrs ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday:— Barometer 29.173ins Thermometer (max) .... 52.2deg Thermometer (min on grass) 45.9deg Rainfall 1.75ins
