RESCUED BY MONKS

The monks of the famous Simplon Hospice recently took part in one of the most remarkable Alpine rescues for many years. A young tourist who had been marooned for some days at the hospice by recent blizzards was continuing his journey down the valley when he was swept away by an avalanche. The monks formed a rescue party, and arrived at the spot at 8 o'clock in the evening. They probed the avalanche with staves until 1 o'clock in the morning, when the tourist was found under 10 feet of snow.
