WORKERS' REPRESENTATIONS TO WAIKATO HOSPIAL BOARD OFFICIAL REPLIES EVAS'IVE

HAMILTON, Thursday. The position of the Waikato Hospital Board with reference to outdoor relief formed a topic for further lengthy discussion at the meeting of Ihe board to-day. Representations were made in a communication from the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association for an increase in the amount of outdoor relief in that district. The communication pointed out that the two local bodies who had in' the past interested themsclves in welfare work had exhanstod their vcsources. Appeals to the. public had resulted in necessarily poorn* response on account of everincreasing taxation, In th® event of the board being unable to supplement its present outdoor relief, they asked that strong representation he made to the Unemployment Board to shoukfer wbat was, after all, it was stated, the Govern'ment's re^ponsibility. New Schemes in the Waikato The secretary reported that several communications had been sent to the Government aslcing for the institu™ tion of the new unemployment schemes in the Waikato, So far, evttslva replies had heen received, Evidently the Government was going to take its time in instituting the new schemes in those distriets outside the main ccmtres. The secretary pointed out that after this month the hoard's rosponsibility would be limited to thoso umunployed who could not work, Tho Rotorua Relief Gommittoes had done excellent work for the unemployod in timi* district, but they were evidently beginning to feel the piueh, It was decided to forward the communication to tlie Unemployment Board,
