Winning two of the fouf singles matches, New South Wales won the Kirk-Windeyer Cup fronr New Zealand. , To-day's singles resulted: Ferrier (N.S.W.) beat Silk (N.Z.) two up; Bettington (N.S.W.) beat Wagg (N.Z.), . five up; Hornabrook (N.Z.) beat Thompson (N.S.W.), five up; Black (N.Z.) beat Withycombe (N.S.W.) four up. Although selected, Brinsden asked to he dropped, so Black played in his place. The match'of the day, was between Silk the New Zealand stylist, and Ferrier, the New South Wales hard hitting champion. Despite a strong cold westerly wind, a large gallery followed the game. . , Silk won the first two holes, the third was halved, and Ferrier won the fourth. The next two were halved. Ferrier at the sixth, holed out from a bunker. The match was squared at. the seventh, when Silk drove into the. bushes and then out of bounds, The? eighth was halved and Silk missed. a short putt at the ninth. The- next three were halved in par figures. Silk squared the game at" the 13th.;. His putting lapsed at the 16th. Silk was two down at lunch. In the afternoon a rare strug-, gle was witnessed. Ferrier won the nineteonth. The twentieth was halved. Silk won the twenty-first but Ferrier took three putts at the next and a half resulted. Silk, however, in. his turn, took three putts on the 23rcft, Silk was stymied at the next and holed his opponent's ball. Ferrier was three up at the 25th. The 28th reduced Silk to.two down after two more halves in par f ours. Silk chipped back dead at the 31st to win and was then one down. Silk's putting again let him down when Ferrier won the thirty-second, but the New Zealander won the next. The thirty-fourth went to Ferrier after Silk visited the bunkers. The second last hole was holed for four, and the last in five. Honours were even as regards length of drives. Silk played his approaches excellently, but his putting was faulty.
