WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Postmaster-General, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, said to-day that he knev/ nothing of the question asked in the Ilouse of Commons concerning the opening of Nev/ Zealand letters, and that he was unaware of any reason when the question was being put. The postal authorities have pov/er io open letters from New Zealand, but he eould not understand why this action had been taken in Great Britain. It is thought in some quarters, that the cable message refers to money sent from New Zealand for the Irish sweepstakes, It is provided in the postal regulations that money sent for the purehase of lottery tickets may be confiscated, but it is considered that | the New Zealand postal authorities 1 v/ould not be ignorant of any move ] taken to prevent money for tickets leaving the eountry.
