the opening day.

RUGBY, Tuesday. Glorious cloudless weather favoured the opening of the Ascot meeting, one of the leading social sporting events of the season. The King and Queen, together with members of the Royal family, followed the usual custom of driving in a four horse open carriage along the track. The lawns and course were crowded and their Majesties were given a loyal and enthusiastic reception. The entries for the events were exceptionally large.
