BUTTERFLY HUNTING

A COSTLY HOBBY. Mr. James John Joicey, who, according to a statement in court some years ago, was unable to live on £20,000 a year and spent about £10,000 annually in pursuit of his hobby of butterfly collecting, has died at his home in Witley, Surrey, at the age of 61, says the Daily Mail. Mr. Joicey possessed the second largest private collection of butterflies in the world, and on one occasion stated that on his death he would 'present the collection, which eontained about 1,500,000 specimens and was valued at £50,000, to the nation. He owned one of the two only known specimens of the butterfly Charaxes fournierae. This is the most valuable inseet in the collection, and was acquired hy Mr. Joicey in the Congo Forest in April of last year. . ■> .
