Yet another confidence trick, the victims of which are young girls, is being practised in the North of England. Young men of presentahle appearance join the parades that can be found in any town on Sunday nights, and, meeting girls, flatter them with a request to "make a date." The girls promise, but the youths then affect to be doubtful as to their sincerity. "Let me hold your wrist watch," say the youths, "to make sure that you will turn up." The girls part with their wafcches or other small pieces of jewellery, but they see the youths no more. A hacking cough strains throat and chest, Its victim lcnows no ease or rest, A raucous rattle comes to stay, And seldom ceases night or day.
