SAFE BROKEN BUT JAMMRD DOOR PREVENTS ENTRANCE

AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Burglars entered the premises of the Auckland Meat Gompany's brapch shop at Epsom last night and Ijlqw open the safe with gelignite. Entry was obtained by forcing the door at the rear of the shop. The explosion was so severe that it awakened a number of residen'ts. It is believed that three men were involved. The safe is a small one and was damaged hy the explosion, displpci'ng the key hole, but the doqr after 'opening about an irich, jammed apd could not he either closed or openqd. There was about £15 in the safe. The burglars used g number of white coats belonging to three employees and an oil skin cqat was plaqed around the safe to deaden the sqund of the explosion. All the coats were badly damaged, some having large holes torn ih the material. The thieves secured nothing.
