all constituencies report steady gains for opposition. SIR R. R. SQUIRES UNSEATED. ST JOHNS (Newfoiindland) Tues. Progress returns indicate that the Newfoundland Government is facing def^at, while the Premier, Sir R. R. Squires, has definitely been unseated. The Opposition is making steady gains in all constituencies. Early to-day the Opposition was leading ih four constituencies. The Government was leading in only one copstituency. The defeat of the Premier, Sir R. R. Squires by Mr. Harold Mitchell by 600 majority in Trinity South was conceded at noon, when there were only a few polls not reported. In all the constituencies not actually decided, the Opposition had a leading position, in most cases an overwhelming majority. The Opposition leader, Mr. F. C. Allerdice, was well ahead in St. Johns West. The final returns from six of the 26 constituencies voting showed five Opposition victbries and one Government. Nine returns have reported steadjly increasing gains for the Opposition. Pr. H. M. Mosdell, Independent, a former member of the Squires Government, has been elected by acclaniation in Fortune Bay. The only Government candidate elected is the Ilon. G. Bradley (Humber), who is a Minister without portfolio.
