START OWN HOSTEL. A number of single unemployed men have banded together and opened a hostel of their own in a large house at the eorner of Fitzgerald Avenue and Ferry Road, which was formerly used as the headquarters of the Christchurch Free Ambulance Society (says the Times). They pool the rations which they draw from the Hospital Board and relief depots, and also have received donations of food from farmers in the Marshland distriet. At present there are about a dozen men living at the hostel, bnt there will be accommodation for thirFy-two when sufficient beds and bedding are obtained.
