O.M.P. HAVE THREE POINT VICTORY OVER CITY HIGH SCHOOL'S BIG WIN After a very evenly contested game, O.M.P. defeated City 8-nil. O.M.P. lcicked off but this was quickly followed by a serum and then a free kick to City owing to an O.M.P. man being offside. City found themselves being pressed hard shortly after this but Burton managed to relieve the situation with a kick into touch. Pairkinson gained possession but was foi'ced out. There was even play in mid-field, until City secured a free kick and Moreton managed to find touch. After the line out, there was some very promising passing until Black spoilt it by knocking on. Sidney attempted a long kick at goal shortly after this when City attempted a penalty but the kick was unsuccessful. City pressed hard and did well until owing to a pass being missed, 'the ball went out about half way. City gained possession again, however, and by good work on the part of their backs got well into O.M.P. territory before the bali went out of touch. From a scrum, O.M.P. got the ball away and put it into touch with a high punt. From this, City gained possession and made a good passing rush in which Sidney showed to advantage. Stancey was also playing a good game at this stage. Give and tr.ke play ensued for a while and then the City forwards, playing well, managed to dribble the ball over the line, but were defeated by a force-down. An exchange of high punting by either side. was without result. A free kick was awarded to O.IVI.P. and some more kicking ensucd, but City did not handle the ball as well as they might, eventually Burton forced. Although O.M.P. managed to get the ball away from the scrums their backs did not scem able to take advantage of it. Rangi Paul put in a very good run but the ball finally went out in City's 25. A good passing rush was again made by O.M.P. but was spoilt by a knock on. City gained a kick as the result of feet being lifted in the scrum, and managed to put the ball out at half way. High kicking ensued in mid-field, until Sidney had a try at goal when City were awarded a kick, but failed. Both teams were playing an excellent game and half tirne came with no score. City kicked off with the sun at their backs and Sidney attempted a shot at goal from a kick at half way but failed. A serum followed in O.M.P.'s { 25 but Black managed to relieve the | situation by a good kick which went j out at the half wray. The forwards of ! both sides were putting up a great I struggle. A good run by Paul nearly j resuited in a score. O.M.P. backs were I passing well but Burton relieved by ; finding the line with a good kick. Mon- ! sell missed in an attempt to score j from a free kick and Sidney relieved • by finding touch. ! Play went from one cnd of the i field to the oiher during a great for- ■ ward battle. Black missed when tak- | ing a free kick for O.M.P., and Sidney cleared with a kick to the line. Black made another attempt a little later, and was successful in opening the scoring for O.M.P. from a free kick making the score 3-0. Play after this was very willing and there were some good passing movements but time found the score unaltered. O.M.P. 3, City 0. Opotiki D.II.S. defeated Whakatane D.H.S. 41-nil.
