"I WANT MY BABY"

ACTRESS MOTHER SEEKS TO CANCEL ADOPTION CONTRACT. "I am the mother, and I want my baby," said Miss Ruth Noble, an Ame1 rican film actress, when she filed a suit at Los Angeles seeking the cancellation of a contract by which she permitted the farnous Japanese screen stai*, Sessue Hayakawa, to adopt her son. She named Hayakawa as father, to which allegation he has made no reply. She says that she met him at Baltimore in 1926 when she joined a a company in which he was playing. The baby was born in 1929, christened Alexander, and, according to the hospital records, the parents were "William and Ruth Hayes," the father giving England as his birthplaee. Miss Noble says that being penniless she signed a contract giving the child to Hayakawa and his beautiful wife, Tsuru Oaki, the Japanese actress who has figured in many successful films. She was to receive £900 and £30 a month,. but she now says: "As soon as the baby was gone I wanted him." She asked the court to restore the child to her and prevent Hayakawa from taking him to Japan. Hayakawa's comment was: "I will make a statement after I have talked with my lawyers." The latter indicated that he would fight to retain the custody of the child.
