BOROUGH FINANCE
COUNCIL REDUCES ESTIMATES TO AVOID INCREASING RATES. CAREFUL PRUNING ADOPTED At the April meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, when the estimates for the year were under consideration, the chairman of the finance committee, Mr. George Urquhart, pointed out that it would he necessary to reduce allocations if an increase of rates was to be avoided. As the works committee required the largest amount of money during the year, he particularly appealed to members to endeavour to adjust the allocation for the year to the minimum which was consistent with efficient administration. The estimates were, therefore, held over for consideration and revision, and the ratepayers will be interested to know that adjustments have been made to obviate any increased rate payments for the ensuing year. With the object of enabling the public to understand the -position, a statement of the estimates as adopted is appended, also a list of the works and services on which reductions have been made.
