(Press. Assn.

BUT PROMISE FOR FUTURE

— By TeJetr a-Ph — Ccpyrlgnt).

Rec. June 9, 7.15 p.m. OTTAWA, Wednesday? Referring to the Imperial Econoniic Conferehce here in July, the Minister of Finance, Mr. E, N. Rhodes, told the Canadian Manufacturers' Association: "We should have full faith that benefit can accrue to a large component part of the Empire as a whole. A measure of success should be the degree to which these discussions are approached from this point of view. There eould be no advantage which is not mutual. "While the coming Imperial Conference mh, yn protoduc aoinrdluoin ference may not produce miracles, it will constitute an epoch in history. The Canadian Manufacturers* Association is doing everything in its power to contribute to the success of the conference," said the President, Mr. W. C. Coulter, indicating the attitude of the Association to the meeting of statesmen iri Ottawa in July. Referring to the diversity of interests at the conference, Mr. Coulter said he did not share the fear that Canada's natural and proper desire to promote and safeguard her own products might limit the accomplishment of the conference. "We do not share these views because it is now generally expected that each British couritry will promote its own developments so far as that course is economically practical," he said.
