AN ALLEGED CONFESSION

WELLINGTON, Thursday. The preliminary hearing of evidence in the charge of murder against Horace Livermore in con.nection with the death of Vera Forster was concluded this morning, and accused was committed for trial. In his evidence Detective McLennan producefl a statement made ty accused to hini on the night the body was found. According to this statement accused hit the child on the head with an iron bar seven times, picked her up, and! dropped her down. a bank. He did not wait to see if she was dead. His reason for hitting her so was to prevent her telling that lie had been interfering with her. He said he did it on the spur of the moment to keep her quiet.
