SCOUTS AND CUBS

i ENJOYABLE PARENTS' EVENING HELD IN PARISH HALL On Saturday evening last, the scouts and cubs held a parent's evening in the Parish Hall. A number of parents were present and also members of the St. Stephen's Girl Guide troop. At 7 p.m. an enrolment was held and the Scouts of both troops were all enrolled as one troop, to be known as the Opotiki Troop of Boy Scouts. Games were played and demonstrations of first aid were given by the Scouts. Before supper, the Rev. N. F. Benham spoke of the loyalty of the troop and pack for turning out in such numbers. Mr. Benham went on to say that, although the scouts had had many black moments and although it had been necessary to amj algamate the two troops into one, he was still as enthusiastic as he had heen from the Tbeginning. He expressed the opinion that the difiiculties of I the Scouts in Opotiki were not all j due to the boys themselves hut to the lack of interest on the part of the general public. Supper, which was provided by the Scouts, was then served. Before dismissing the troop and pack, Mr.Benham announced that the Scout Cup (presented by Mr. Hogg to the St. Stephens Troop) had now become the property of the Open Troop. Mrs Morell (Captain of St. Stephen's 'Girl Guides) presented Patrol Leader E. Upton with the Cup won by his patrol. Mr. Stan. Webb eulogised the work done by the committee and secretary in the interests of the movement.
