STORE BURGLED
INTRUDERS* CONSUME DRINKS BEFORE JLEAVING PREMISES WINDOW BROKEN IN OPOTIKI, Tuesday. A general store belonging to Skinner and Lane at Omaio, about 30 miles by the "East Goast Road from Opotiki, was broken into on Monday night. The intruder, or intruders, gained entry by breaking the glass of a side window and undoing the fastening." Fortunately for the owner, h.e had emptied the till of cash before leaving the previous night. Chocolates, apples, and razor blades were taken, b'ut what else is not yet known. Two bottles of soft drinks were consumed by the intruder and the empty bottles .left on the floor. The unauthorised visitor let himself out by the front door and pulled it to after him. Constable Prini of Te Taha is investigating the matter. A window in Father Lagan's residence was broken in on Monday night, and at first it was thought that this also might have been done by the same person, but subsequent investigations showed that this was probably damaged by the very heavy wind which was experienced that night.
