i The Goyernment meteorologist issued the following weather report and fsrecast last night: — General situation: The recent disturhances are centered to-day near the Cfeatham Islands. 'An anticyclone now covers the Tasman Sea with the highest pressure over the northern portion. F orecast: Winds moderate to strong with' south-westerlies of gale forfce" between Akaroa and - the East Cape, but decreasing gradualiy. Weather: Cold, changeable and somewhat squally with scattered showers, huti improving gradualiy. Some severe inland. frosts to-night. Following are"fhe barometer, maxlmum a'nd minimum thermometer, and rainfall readings recorded at the Gov- , ernment Obseryation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday: — Barometer 29.571ins. Thermometer (max.) 54.1deg. Thermometer (mTn. on grass) 40.3deg. Rainfall 0.45ins.
