DILATORY ATTITUDE

The Rotorua Unemployment Relief Committee is at present faced with a most difficult position in regard to obtaining funds for unemployment relief purposes as apart from the payment of sustenance. Under the Unemployment Amendment Act of last year, which came into operation on April 30, 1932, provision was made for the utilisation of the unemployment funds for providing relief to necessitous cases, but despite repeated requests from the local committee for some definite authority on this point, it has been unable to obtain any satisfaction from the Unemployment Board. With each week, an increasing number of cases in urgent need of relief is coming forward, and the diliatoriness of the authorities is : considerably accentuating a difficult position.
