dr. w. e. orchard received into church ENGLISH RELIGIOUS LEADER

-By Telegraph — Copyright.)

LONDON, Thursday. Dr William Edwin Orchard, who recently resigned his positiPn as minister of the King's Weigh House Phurch, Duke Street, in the West End of London, has been receiyed into the Roman Catholic Church. The Lambeth Conference of 1930 finally rejected Dr. Orchard's appeal (begun in 1927) for admission into the Communion of the Church of England. The Rev. W. E. Orchard, D.D., is 54 years of age, and has filled a prominent place in religious life in England since 1914, when he became minister of the King's Weigh House Church (Congregational). Here he adopted a ritual similar to that of the Anglo-Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches. It has 'long been recognised that he had decided leqnings towa'rd Roman Catholicism, and the step he has now taken will not cause surprise. He announced his resignation from the pastorate of- his chprch last January, as his effo.rts to "combine the differing fprms of church worship and order" were jnisunderstood.
