OPERATIONS OF TWO MEN watched by young lady BOTH ACCCJSED CONVICTED Two men named Daggar and Pullman who had been splitting posts at Tirohonga, appeared before the' Police Court in Opotiki on We luesday on two charges of stealing motor parts of a total value of £3 the property of M. O. Kidd. Daggar pleaded gu.'lty to tne first charge and also in ccnnection with certai'n of the articles mentioned in , the second charge. Pullman pleaded not £uilty. M. O. Kidd in evidence, said that as a result of an eXamination of the cars at the back of his property he discovered that certain parts had been removed. Elleh Grace Webb stated that on Sunday last she had, while working at a house at the back of Kidd's garage she s'aw two me'n near the old cars one of whom appeared to be removing somethirig from one of them. She recognised one of the acc'used as one of the men she had seen it the car. Constable Breed, in evidence, said he had executed a search warrant at the accused's camp and had found one missing wheel on the lofry and Other motor parts on or near it. Aecused Pullman said that the iorry was the property of Daggar and he had nothing to do with' it, 'Questioned by Sergeant Millar as to whether he had heard Miss Webb say she had seen him near the lorry, accused said: "No; she said a man with' dark curly hair." He ' admitted going into the lane with Daggar, but said he did not iielp to remove any of the parts.' " The Berich found Daggar guilty on both counts and said that with regard to ' Pullman they did not altogether believe his story and fKbught that he was more or jess aware of what Daggar was doing. On the first charge Daggar was convicted and fined £3-, in default seven days' imprisonment and Pullman was fined £1 or three days' imprisonment. On the second charge accused were convicted and discharged. Witnesses' expenses were ordef ed to be paid, half by each man. The property recovered was ordered to be returned to the owner.
