LORRY BURNED

destructive pire near abattoirs on te ngae road A heavy motor truck carrying a ioad of posts between Rotorua and Mourea was totally destroyed by fire shortly after eight o'clock on Tueslay evening. The lorry was owned by Mr. W. J. Moody and driven by Mr. Scahill, of Rotorua, who was proceeding from the mill at Mourea into town. The trouble arose from a backfire whieh caused flames to ignite from the engine, and rapidly enveloped the whole vehicle. Nothing could be done to check the fire and the vehicle, with its load, was completely gutted. The outbreak occurred in iho vicinity of the abattoirs. Mr. Scahill escaped from the cab without injury. Insurances were not available yesterday.
