SOCIAL EVENING

MR. A. H. BRUCE FAREWELLED A social evening was held on Monday night in St John's hall to farewell Mr. A. H. Bruce of the Bank of New Zealand who is being transferred to the New Plymouth branch. Mr. Bruce is to be married shortly and will be missed in' Opotiki where he has rendered splendid service to the community by his work with the scouts and various other organisationsv eonnected with St. John's Church. The Hon. J. B. Gow presented Mr. Bruce with a silver tea-service on behalf of the congregation and Mr. Rowland, Manager of the Bank of New Zealand eulogised Mr. Bruce and his work. Mr. G. B. Murray thanked Mr. Bruce for his wonderful work in connection with St. John's Sunday School, and Mr. A. H. Hilford spoke on behalf of the choir. The evening was passed very enjoyably with games and Mrs. Duff and Miss Sampson rendered songs which were much appreciated. The ladies served a delightful supper.
