RETURNED SOLDIERS
BRANCH OF ASSOCIATION FORMFfiy AT MANAWAHE. INAUGURAL SOCIAL. On Wednesday evening last pfixcials'- - of the Whakatane - Returned Soldiers' Associatxon-visited Manawahe for the purpqse of organxsjng a suh-corixmit--tee iri that districh- The Manawahe Hall was packed and a very fiearty receptipn was accorded tlxe representatives. 5 ' " 1 The ohjects of the associatxori were Outliried by Messrs. L. V/ylie ' secretary), M/ Hamill (treasuref ) ' and W Clark. Mr. J. Stichberry ' spoke on hehalf of the returned soidiers of Manawahe and assur-ed the reyresentatives that steps had already' been • taken to form the local committee and arid that there was every prospect of a'very strong hranch being forined. After the meeting a combined dance and social was held and the spirit of camaraderie which preyailed left no doubt as to the entertafnment being fully enjoyed. During the eveixing musical items were given by Mri. Stanley Jenkins, and an amusirig war story was contributed hy Mr W. Clark The Whakatane Assoeiation was represented by Messrs". L. Wylxe, M. Hamill and Messrs. J. Bennetts A. Piggales, P. Brown and F. W. Johnsen of the entertainment committee. Amongst those present were Miss Sisley, lemon embossed taffeta; Miss E. T-illey, floral ninon; Mrs. Q.~ Fenton, black satin heaute; Mrs. Ilaulst, floral maroeain; Mrs. Mikklesen, figured crepe de chine; Miss Edna Mik« . klesen, floral taffeta; Miss B,,,To^ce, plain satin heaute; Miss June Pxickey* pink net over silk; Miss Mavis Theohald, floral taffeta; Miss R. J. Erskine, hlack georgette; Miss E. Rim» mer, floral taffeta; Miss O. Rxrixmer, ivory crepe de chine; Miss Iris Unsworth, rotor blue maroeain; Mfs. R, Habgood, chiffon velvet; Miss M. Rendall, blue crepe de chine lace; Miss P. Rendall, rose pink satin beautej Miss L. Rendall, apricot georgette beaute; Miss H. Morrice, floral georgette; Miss M. Farrelly, flame maroeain; Mrs. F. Kinnon, navy crepe de chine; Mrs. A. Blake, embossed green velvet. A waltzing competition resrilted in Mr. W. Clark and partner, first, with Mr. A. Piggales and partner second. Ari excellent supper was provided hy Mrs. De Lacey, and much credit must be given to her for numerous 'efforts which she has made to furtlier the social advancement of the Assoeiation. As a result ""of the siiceess achieved, it was resolved to hold a sinxilar evening every month. "
