cinemas, picture galleries and zoos may be opened BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S BILL

LONDON, Saturday. The Government's Sunday Entertainments Bill received its second reading in the House of Commons to-day by 237 votes to 61. The new Bill, which is a compromiso measure, will legalise Sunday coneerts and the Sunday opening of such places as picture galleries and zoos. It permits Sunday cinemas for London and* other areas whieh had Sunday cinemas under special conditions before 1930. It provides that other areas may proceed hy special draft order for permission to open cinemas on Sunday, but the order can only become effective if supported by a majority of the inhabitants in the area concerned. Local authorities are required to see that profits derived from Sunday openings shall be devoted to charities, and days of rest for employees are to be guaranteed.
