THE WEATHER
The Government meteoroioglst issued the following weather report and forecast iast night: — General Situation: A shallow depression crossed the Dominion Iast night, but an anticyclone still covers New Zeaiand and the Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds, southerlies prevailing at first, but backing later to westerly and north-westerly. South of New Plymouth-and Napier, moderate mainly, but strong at times in exposed positions. Weather: Some scattered showers at first 'north of Auckland, and between Cook Strait and the East Cape, but improving; elgewhere fine; cold night, but milder to-morrow. Following are the barometer, maximum and minimum thermometer, and rainfall readings recorded at the Gov- ' ernment Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday: — Barometer 30.212ins. Thermometer (max) 55.0 deg. Thermometer (min or| grass) 42,0deg Rainfall .... .... .... Nil
