jury's verdict SDNTENCES OF FROM TWO YEARS TO TWO MONTHS RETRIAL OF FOUR ORDERED

AUCKLAND, last night There was a tfense atmosphere in | t|ie Stipreme Court this evening when the trial of the rioting qharges ended after five days- hearing, and the fate of the 14 men. became known. The jury, which had retired at 1.40 p.m., returned at 6.1(1 p.np- to report that they found eight of the aCcused guilty of taking part in the rioting on the night of April 14, two not guilty, and that ab.out the remaining four, they could not reach an agreements Mr. Justice Herdm.an pronounced sentence as follows on the eight men found guilty: George Joseph SilVer, Gsorge Devereaux, Simeon El- j ari,- J. W. -R. Simpson, Mate Dragovich, two years imprisonment with hard labour; John Hubert Edwards, Clifford John Dudson, one year's imprisonment with hard labour; Harold Robertson, two months' imprisonment with hard labour, to be concurrent with the sentence he is now serving. * The jury could not agree in respect to the following accused. Oswald Bourbeau, John William McCorkindale . William John Budd and Alher't Williams Searles. John Sharpe and Leo Martinovich were found not guilty and discharged. The Crown was granted leave for a new trial of the four men about ; whicl^ an agreement could not be reached, and this will take place at ;th'e next criminal sittings in Augsust : It was stated that the accused are all in custody.
