The hard frost H that set in on Wednesday night fol-^K lowing the heavy rains caused thinK layers of ice to form on the bitumen HE streets and rendered hoth walkingBg and car driving dangerous. ffli| After the pictures and dances onHf Wednesday night several pedestriansB had narrow escapes from snrains W& through slipping when crossing theH streets, and on Thursday morning be-^K fore the ice had thawed, the roact-^g ways were particularly dangerous, Bh and two accidents occurred, fortun-^H ately without injury to persons. At 8.30 a.m. yesterday a trades-^P man's van skidded at the intersectionM| of Pukuatua and Ranolf Streets, audBi collided with a privately-ownedHgg sedan car. The van was slightly dam-^^ aged on the running board. At about the same time, Mr. J.H| Geaney, driving his sedan car fronHp Te Ngae.J;o Rotorua, skidded on gjjra corner about a mile and a-half fr W&Z Rotorua. The car got out of contr-'^® 1 and dropped into a ditch on its side^K The impact broke the right hand axle, and was sufficiently violent throw the vehicle back on to itlljlf wheels again. The jar severe]]®B strained" the chassis and bodywork. Though considerably shaken Geaney fortunately suffered no jury. wjjm
