WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The P ostmaster-Generai, tKe Hon. A^am Hftmilton, .stated, today that the Government, in pjirsuance of its policy of reducing costs, had decided to revert tp the. system.. of uniyersal jsenny postage as from June 1 next. Mr. Hamilton, ad.ded that the nec: essary details regardiiig rates would be made known.to the public throughout New Zealahd in the course of the next few - days, but generaliy speaking, it could be said that the rates imvogua prior to March 1, 1931 with slight exceptions, were being reverted to. The revised charges brought into operatiop on March 1, 1931, were a? follows, the rates in vogue prior to that date being also , shown : Letters 2d, instead of lcf; postcards, ld, instea'd of ^d, Tate fe'e, .2d, instead of ld; packets, ld'.for each 4oz, instead of ld for each 2oz up to ^Jb, and 2d a lb there'after; newspapers, ld for each 8oz, instead of ld per i copy; registratipn fee 4d, instead of 3d; parcels, '6d a, lb. for the first 21b and 3d ,a lb thereafter up tp 11 lb. The fragiie fees of 6d and 9d on parcels were doubled. Telegrams were increased to a penny a word, with a minimum of 1/-, with urgent telegrams douhle that rate; night letter telegrams were altered to l/r for 24 words; radio telegrams were increased from 5d to lOd a word, to 6d and ild.
