Ladies' Golf Match The ladies' golf match to be played on the Ari'kikapakapa course, and which was postponed from yesterday until Friday, will now be played in conjunction with the Coronation medal competition, and Aotearoa Cup. Tiling Blue Elath The Public "Works Department are calling tenders for the tiling and lining of the juvenile bath in the new Blue Bath buildings. Tenders will be received by the secretary, Tenders Board, Wellington, up to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, and plans and specifications may be seen at the Public Works offiices on the woiks at Rotorua, and at Hamilton, Auckland and Tauranga. Champion Roller Skater A special attraction is announced for the skating programme at the Peerless Hall this evening, in the appearance of Ramonoff, the Australasian champion skater, who will give special exhibitions of the art and technique of roller skating. The usual evening programme of skating to music will also be held* Got To Be Wiped Out. "We will never get anything done with the civil service we have at present. The civil servants are the bosses of this country. They have got to be wiped out and they are going to be wiped out. Our servants have become our masters and are sitting on the box seat,'' said Mr. J. E. Martin at yesterday's annual meeting of the Rotorua County Council. Reporoa Setllement A meeting' of the farmers interested in the small holding settlement seheme was held in the Reporoa Hall on Tuesday evening. The Departpient of Agriculture was represented by its Taupo district organiser, Mr. C. H. Newson, who outlined the main features of the scheme. As there is no council in the Taupo County, a committee of settlers was formed. The general feeling of the committee was that climatie and other conditions rendered the Reporoa district rather unsuitpble for small holdings. Larger holdings would be favoured. Constructive criticism is desired and may he made either through local newspapers or direct to the Department of AgricultureAs indicated in a previous issne of this paper, "the constructive critic in this matter may carry out a national service." Tribute to Staff "I feel that much of the -Councirs success in being able to reduce rates has been due to the efficient work of our county clerk and treasurer, Mr. A. Bellingham, "vylio has at all times been loyal to the interests of the r.atepayers of the county. This, together with the good field work of our exigineei', Mr. T. S. Robertson, has made my duties asxchairman very pleasant indeed- I desire to express my appreeiation and thanks to the individual members of the Council and the staff for their support and assistance during my term of ofiice," stated the chairman of the Rotorua County Council (Mr. H. Alleged Theft of Cream Gilbert Challden, who was arrested at Taumarunui, was charged yesterday morning at Opotiki, before Mr. F. J- Short, J.P., with stealing a tin of cream, valued at 30/-, the property of William Reginald Walker, of Tirohonga. He was remanded to appear to-day. Snow on Mamaku Hiils A motorist who arrived in Rotorua from Hamilton yesterday afternoon reported that light snow had fallen in the Mamaku Hills, ' and a small deposit lay over the ground. The fall, however, was so light that it was not likely that it would lie on the ground for long. Avoiding Expense In order to avoid considerable expense the Public Works Department is constructing a half-bridge across a wash-out on one of the lower bluffs on the Te Teko-Galatea Road, thns avoiding the cutting back of about 10 chains of cliff face to give a full width of road surfaee. The work is to be done so as to cause the minimum of disorganisation of traffic on the route, and at the most, the road will only be closed for one day. County Chairman's WorkThe Rotorua County Council at its annual meeting yesterday, placed on record its appreeiation of the exeellent service rendered during the year by the retiring chairman, Mr. H. P. Ford, and on the motion of Gr. R. Copeland Smith, Mr. Ford was unanimously re-eleeted as chairman for the existing term. In moving a motion of appreeiation of the chairman's work, Cr. A. L. Keith paid a warm tribute to the time and energy he had given to the work of the CouncilThanking councillors for again electing him as chairman, Mr. Ford said that the co-operation and loyalty of the staff had been of the very great1 est assistance to him during his term of oifice. Mr. Ford has oceupied the position of county chairman continuously since 1925. New Access Route Work, as far as the Public Works Department is concerned, should be finalised on the Te Teko-Waiohau-Galatea Road, in about a month to six weeks, according to the assistantdistrict Public Worlcs engineer, Mr. F. L. Park. The work would prohahly have been completed sooner had not the, inclement weather conditions retarded the metalling programme. This road will give access from the East Cpast, not only to thq Galatea Estate but to some 40,000 acres of adjacent farming land. It will also he an outlet for the timber industry in this area and in the Urewera.
