LADIES' HOCKEY
EXECUTIVE MEETING TWO ROTORUA TEAMS TO BE ENTERED FOR AARD CUP NEXT SATURDAY' S FIXTURES The executive committee of the Rotorua Ladies' Hockey Association held their usual weekly meeting on Monday evening, the president, Miss K. Carnachan, occupying the chair. A letter from the Mamaku Club protesting against the action of the Shamrock Club in defaulting last Saturday and complaining of the lack of information forwardefi by the association was read and discussed. The secretary reported that he had been in constant touch with members of the Shamrock Club in regard to their arrangements for the ■ trip throughout the week, and that it was not until Saturday morning that the decision to default had been arrived at. He had immediately advised the Mamaku Club by telephone, and regretted that owing to a lack of information he liad been unable to do so earlier. He stated that the school holidays had resulted in the Shamrock Club being unable to field a full team, and the club's assertion of lack of interest by the association was ill-founded, as considerable time had been spent in an effort to arrange the town team's fulfilment of its fixture. The committee instructed him to advise the Mamaku Club to this effect. The Kerepeehi Association wrote 'stating that it hoped to accept the invitation for a match in Rotorua during June, and that further adviee would be forwarded at an early date.
As a seleetor, Mr. A. C. Watts suggested that an A and B trial match be played next Saturday to choose a team to play in the Aard Cup tourney on June 3, competition games to be postponed to allow this to be done. Opening the discussion, the secretary stated that this motion would result in competition matches being not played for two successive Saturday s, as arrangements had been made with the Rotorua Athletic and Axemen's Club to suspend games on Saturday, June 4. He thought that it was the association's duty to aim at club competition more than at representative matches, and was therefore against the suggestion. The motion was put, after discussion, and was lost. A motion, also by Mr. Watts, that two teams be entered by the association for the Aard Cup tournament to enable younger players to gain experience in representative games was carried. At the suggestion of the Mourea delegate, it was decided to inspect the Mourea ground before the commencement of the next competition with a view to granting the club home matches. It was also decided that the Government Grounds should be alTotted as a venue for the playing of matches between the Mourea and Mamaku Clubs. On the suggestion of Mr. C. Mitchell it was decided to approach the District Manager of th Tourist Department for permission to erect a painted sign in the main drive of the Government Grounds direeting the public to the hockey fields. The fixtures and times of matches for next Saturday are as follows:— Mamaku v. Hinemoa, 2 p.m. Shamrocks v. Whippets, 3 p.m. Taniwha v. Mourea, 3 p.m. Mourea, a bye. All games will be played at" the Government Grounds.
