MACHINE GUNNERS
VOLUNTARY TERRiTORIALS HOLD ANNUAL COURSE ROTORUA SECTION The Rotorua volunteer territorials fired their annual machine-gun course on Saturday last. Out of a strength of 25, 23 attended. Nine men were suecessful in obtaining marksman gunner's badges. The gun commanders were Scrgeant R. Price, No- 1 gun; and LanceCorporal A. Ford, No. 2 gun. The gun commanders were the . first to fire, and both did well by obtaining their marksman gunner's badge. Sergeant Price put up the best score for the day. The practices wefre: — (1) [Forty rounds observation practice; (2) 20 rounds yi ten seconds, at a 4 x 4 inch brown patch, 2 pomts per hit; (3) traversing a brown strip 15in. by 2Jin., subdivided into spaces of llin. in width ; 60 rounds to be fired in 25 seconds, 1 point per hit, 30 points . ..added if no spaces are missed, 25 points added if one space missed, and so on. If six spaces are missed no points are added; (4) guns to be brought into action and fire 20 rounds in 100 seconds at a triangle patch. This is a difficult practice; 30 points are given for first hit and 5 for each succeeding hit. The following were the scores of those who obtained marksmen guntters i- — Sergeant R- Price, 177; Lce.Corporal R- Henderson, 114; R. Wood, 162; Sergeant R. Norman, 112; Lce.-Corporal W.
