-By TeKgranh — Oopyriglit.)
Rec. May 24, 7.20 p.m. LONDON, Tuesday. In the House of Commons, during the Committe stage of the Finance Bill, Mr- E. C. Grenfell (Conservative) moved an amendment that no Tariff Advisory Committee order shall apply to wheat and meat. He said that nearly £200,000,000 was spent yearly on wheat and meat, and these vital commodities of the people sliould be admitted free of duty. Mr. Stuart Bevan (Conservative) said there were rumours that Mr. Stanley Baldwin was not going to Ottawa, in which case he feared it would prove a "white elephant." Having been associated with one "white elephant" across 'the Atlantic, he did not wish to he associated with another. How could Argentina pay interest on British capital, he asked, if Great Britain was going 'to deny her produets entry into the world's greatest market. The amendment was rejected by 282 votes to 59 votes. The Daily Telegraph says there is no foundation for the suggestion that Mr. Baldwin is not going to Ottawa. The Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald, will be back in London before Mr Baldwin is due to leave as head of the British delegation.
