LOCAL AND GENERAL
New Incinerator The new modern incinerator recently erected at the Rotorua Primary School is a decided improvement on the old one, in both efficieney and tidyness. It is also more pleasing to the eye, and does not detract from the appearaftce of the school grounds to the same extent as the former structure did. Rotorua District Roads. The patrol officer of the Auckland Automobile Assn. who is at present in Rotorua, reports that district roads generally are in good condition. There is one bad stretch, however, on the Rotorua-Auckland road between Cambridge and Tirau where the surface is badly corrugated and ve.ry much in need of grading. No Prospect at Present As the result of a resolution passed at the annual meeting of householders, in connection with the Rotorua Primary School, a letter was sent to the Education Board asking for the provision of additional accommodation in the infant department of the Rotorua School- A reply from the board states that on account of the present fmancial situation there is no present prospect of having the school enlarged. The matter however will receive further consideration as soon as funds are available. Work at Kuirau Considerable improvement work is at present in progress, under the direction of Mr. F. Tschopp, on the Kuirau Reserve. Uriemployed relief workers are providing the labour. In accordance with the plan drawn up , h^r Mr. Tschopp for a comprehensive scheme for developing and beautifying the area, new footpaths are now being laid and existing ones attended to. A pathway around the Timaru Lake is at present being constructed. Morrice v. Morrice Owiiig to' a- misunderstanding, in the course of a report published in yesterday's "Post," dealing with the case of 'Morrice v. Morrice, it was stated that the husband had paid his wife only £4 mainten'ance since the inception of the order. This is not actually the case, as Mr. Morrihe has receipts in his jpossession showing that he has paid his wife altogether, approximately £60 since the order was made. The sum of £4 mentioned has been paid since the def endant went on relief work at the end of January of this year.
School Dental Clinic The Rotorua primary schools' dental clinic at present being established in one of the disused buildings at King George V. Hospital will be opened on June !• The opening date was fixed definitely as a result of a letter received by the Primary School Committee from the district dental supervisor, inquiring when the clinic would be ready for oceupation.
New Beauty Spot Extensive beautifying work under the supervision of Mr. F. Tschopp, is at present being carried out by unemployed labour at the South end of Fenton Street opposite the main entrance to the Arikikapakapa golf course. A decorative island is being constructed with a drive around it, thus providing a suitahle turning plaeo and parking area. The Government reserve, under the control of the Tourist Department, which adjoins this area, has already been cleared and stumped, and is ready to be planted in native shrubs and grass. This new circuit and clearing work will provide visitors with an excellent panoramic view of the geyser area, and when the scheme is completed should prove a great attraction. Razorbacks Deviation. It is expected that the new deviation round the Razorback hills on the Auckland-Hamilton-Rotorua road will he opened at tlie end of the month. This deviation which has been in the course of eonstruction for the past four years, will eliminate the bad stretch of road over the hills, although actually it will not shorten the road distance. The grade of the new road will not be more than one in sixteen and it will remove the. last remaining obstacle to easy motoring between Rotorua and the city. The deviation leaves the present route at the foot of the Bombay Hill and rejoins the road at Pokeno. Another deviation which will be of considerable assistance to motorists has recently been opened between Otorohanga and Harigitiki on the Te KuitiHamilton road. This deviation shortens the present road distance by two and a half miles.
