RUGBY DECISION
5 * : ■ . • (S J, J UNEMPLOYED TO BENEFIT FROM SATURDAY'S MATCHES PROCEEDS TO WOMEN'S CLUB As the result of a deputation from ■ the Rotorua Relief Workers' Association to last evening's meeting of the Rotorua Rugby sub-union mari&ge- J ment committee, it was decided that ( the proceeds of matches to be play- i ed in Rotorua and at Mourea on-Sat-urday be devoted to the assistance of the unemployed in the district, and that they be handed to tbe Rotorua Women's Club to be disbursed through their relief fund. Two relief workers' delegates, Mesrs Parish and Daniels, attended the meeting and requested the assistance of the union in raising funds in order to help some of the more necessitous members of their association. They aslced if the union would- consider holding a benefit Saturday for this purpose. Tbe delegates suggested that if necessary they would draw a team from their numbers and play against a union senior team. They suggested that a farce or fancy costume seven-a-side match might also add to the programme. Asked' by Mr. T. S. Robertson, president of the- union, whether they had any definite proposal to make in reference to the percentage of the proceeds to be made available for relief purposes the delegates replied that that was a matter for the union to decide. They were merely asking for assistance and would be pleased to leave details to the union's discretion. It was decided to hand the nett proceeds of Saturday's gate to the Rotorua Women's Club, to be used by them. for the assistance of unemployed relief workers in the Rotorua district.
