ROTORUA HUNT
MEMBERS FAVOURED WITH FINEST RUN OF SEASON HOUNDS MAKE ONE KILL The finest run that has yet been enjoyed this season, favoured the members of the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club who attended the meet on Saturday. In this instance the run culminated in the hare being lost but shortly afterwards a kill was made after practically no run at all. The meet, which was about thirty strong, gathered at the corner of Devon Street and Malfroy Road, and led by the master, huntsman, whips and a pack of sevan couples commenced operations on Springfield farm. Puss was soon located and the hounds pursued her close at heel. After a short run, however, the hare took cover in some scrub at th'e end of Mr. Boord's property and was lost. The flat was then tried hut with no success although the hounds, which worked well, covered the area thoronghly. A move was then made to the Tihi-o-tonga block, where in a gully at the back of the homstead, a strong hare was put up. Hounds went of in full cry on the trail of puss, who crossed through Mr. Wrigley's to Mr. Ford's property, finally escaping after a three-mile run, on the other side of Sunset Road. On this occasion the hare set the field a hard task and the horses were well tried as they endeavoured to follow the pack, by taking the jumps. Another hare was raised on the road, but this one only provided a short run, the hounds, which were too close, rolling her over in very short time. Messrs Ford's and Hardcastles' pro perties were then worked, but without result, and as the afternoon was drawing to a close, the field adjoUrned to the home of Mrs H. P. Ford, where they were welcomed with a very acceptable afternoon tea.
